Hoosier Park slots draws crowds3 June 2008ANDERSON, Indiana -- As reported by the Indianapolis Star: "Hundreds of people, some with walkers and wheelchairs, waited for hours outside Hoosier Park's new casino Monday, each of them hoping to coax a slot machine into a jackpot. "With the line wrapped around the newly paved parking lot, if the first day's turnout is any indication of the future, Anderson and Madison County already have hit their jackpot. Advertisement "...Hoosier Park Racing & Casino means tourism dollars, steady jobs, economic development and money for infrastructure improvements, officials said. "The casino expects about 3 million patrons each year and the additional traffic will support 550 new year-round hospitality jobs. Without the casino, only about 400 people worked at the horse track during the summer. "Officials also envision Anderson becoming a destination for tourists. Hoosier Park already is surrounded by strip malls, restaurants and hotels, and there's talk of adding a larger hotel with a conference center..." |
