Hollywood Casino Bets on New Machines

LOUISIANA – As reported by the Shreveport Times: "Traffic backs up for miles on busy Interstate 635 in north Dallas, so trapped motorists have plenty of opportunity to look up at the billboard advertising Hollywood's new slot machines.

"The casino, confined by bankruptcy rules for months, is finally allowed to surge forward and make a large capital investment. The first move: Buy about 250 new video poker and slot machines, worth $3 million. The second: Advertise like crazy.

"…While the lights and sounds of hundreds of slot machines side by side on casino floors may blend together, the design is a result of constant research into the types of units at other properties in this market and in others, always bolstered by requests from players.

"…At Hollywood, the first new machines were installed on the third floor.

"Twenty-two of the first 50 were video poker machines, next to the casino's newly expanded poker room.

"It will take through the end of June for all new slots at Hollywood to be installed, a process which requires inspection by the state police. The $3 million order was the first large capital purchase since the casino opened.

"…Among the hottest trends recently are ticket-in-ticket-out technology, which takes coins out of the slot machines, and multi-denomination machines…"
