Ho-Chunk Won't Try a Second Time

WISCONSIN – As reported by the (Madison, Wisconsin) Capital Times: "If Dane County residents vote next week against turning the DeJope bingo hall into a casino, Ho-Chunk Nation officials say they will not come back for a second try.

"'We're not really ready to go where we're not wanted,' Rebecca Weise, attorney general for the Ho-Chunk Nation, told The Capital Times editorial board on Monday.

"Ho-Chunk Nation President George Lewis concurred.

"…That was surprising news to members of No Dane Casino, which has contended that Ho-Chunk will launch another campaign to establish a casino at DeJope if the referendum fails.

"…Dane County residents will vote in a referendum on Feb. 17 on whether they would like to see Ho-Chunk add such games as blackjack and craps to the bill at DeJope, which is located in southeast Madison…"
