Harrah's slot tournament a winner8 November 2006ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "In a matter of seconds, the Eden Lounge at Harrah's Atlantic City went from relative quiet to a deafening din Tuesday afternoon. Hosts Randy and Theresa Daggs cranked up the loud dance music and shouted 'Who wants to win a million dollars?' into the public-address system. "…There is no skill or strategy involved. Players just tried to hit the button as many times as possible in the 10 minutes allotted for each round. The loud music, cheers from the hosts and a conga line of Harrah's staff members winding around the room whipped the players into a frenzy. "…The tournament is held every year, and 10 winners from each property get airfare, hotel and meals for themselves and a guest to compete in the finals said company publicist Dave Curley. The main event rotates among Harrah's destination properties — Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Lake Tahoe, Nev., and New Orleans — so a person wouldn't win a local contest only to get a vacation to some place like Council Bluffs, Iowa. "…The atmosphere was festive as contestants wore wild hats and T-shirts provided by their home casinos. Many wore strands of beads with blinking lights. "…Alicia DeLuna, 64, of Virginia Beach, Va., won the $1 million in the tournament. She qualified for the event by winning a contest at Bally's Atlantic City." copyrighted material written for and appeared exclusively in The Press of Atlantic City |
