Harrah's Job Fair Attracts Many

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "A fair held Tuesday at Harrah's Atlantic City to fill the positions of striking Local 54 of Unite Here workers at Harrah's and Showboat Casino Hotel drew a continuous line of people eager for a job.

"…Jerry Fox is hoping to get rid of his two part-time jobs in Sea Isle City, where he lives. The seasonal community does not provide enough work for him, he said.

"Job-seekers said they feel for the strikers, but work is work.

"…Hiring workers to replace strikers is 'a slap in the face,' said Ed Costello, who has worked as a bartender at Harrah's for 21 years and is now on strike. 'We want to come back to work. All we expect is a good contract.'

"The positions are permanent replacement jobs, Harrah's [But Harrah's Entertainment Inc. spokeswoman Susan Kotzen] confirmed. While she didn't know how many jobs were being offered, she said that some would be immediate hires.

"Tropicana Casino and Resort also held a job fair Tuesday…"
