Harrah's Cherokee Casino Remains Dry

CHEROKEE, North Carolina – As reported by the Asheville Citizen-Times: "Before a packed Council House, the Tribal Gaming Enterprise Board withdrew a request today to have a referendum on selling alcohol at Harrah's Cherokee Casino.

"The controversial request drew conservative members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to the meeting. Tribal Council agreed to pull the request from the agenda, but said it could come back again for consideration.

…"This is the third time in 16 years that the question of selling alcohol on the Cherokee Indian Reservation has been debated. Tribal law currently prohibits the selling of alcohol on the reservation…"
