Food Bank Rejects Casino Contribution

CALIFORNIA – As reported by Contra Costa Times: "The band of American Indians who run Casino San Pablo claim an Alameda County food bank rejected its $3,000 contribution this week because of the stormy politics surrounding its expansion proposals.

"The Lytton Band of Pomo Indians, which in recent months has met with fierce regional opposition to its efforts to enlarge the casino and add electronic gambling machines, offered the money earlier this week.

"They heard back from the Alameda County Community Food Bank on Thursday, Lytton spokesman Doug Elmets said: Thanks, but no thanks.

"…Food bank director Suzan Bateson said her organization turned down the Lyttons for a practical reason, not a political one. Casino San Pablo is in Contra Costa County, she said, and therefore the exclusive soliciting domain of that county's food bank…"
