Detroit casino raises over $70,000 for charity

7 September 2011

DETROIT, Michigan -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Greektown Casino's charity golf outing has raised more than $70,000 for Think Detroit PAL, Boys Hope Girls Hope and the Coleman A. Young Foundation.

The outing, which was held at Shenandoah Golf Club Monday, August 29, brought together corporate sponsors and business leaders for 18 holes of golf, a live auction and more in support of non-profits geared towards the empowerment of the city's youth.

"We are excited to be able to present these donations to these organizations that are positively impacting the children of Detroit every day," said Marvin Beatty, Chief Community Officer Greektown Casino-Hotel. "We look forward to making this an annual event where we can continue to help support our city and programs of this nature."

Proceeds from the event are to be distributed equally among the three charities. "It is an honor to have been chosen as a recipient of this year's charity golf outing. This generous gift will help support our many programs that instill leadership and teambuilding skills in the 10,000 plus children who participate in Think Detroit PAL activities," said Michael Porter, CEO, Think Detroit PAL.

The charity golf outing is one of several community outreach activities that the casino participates in as part of its Turning the Page on Illiteracy initiative. For more information visit www.greektownreading.com.
