Consultants hired to run Tropicana

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "State gaming regulators Wednesday approved the hiring of a veritable dream team of former casino executives as consultants to help run the troubled Tropicana Casino and Resort while a new buyer is sought.

"Topping the list is former Tropicana President Pamela Popielarski, who is returning to the property 12 months after she was fired in an executive housecleaning by then-new owner Columbia Sussex Corp.

"Joining Popielarski as management consultants are G. Michael Brown, a former director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and one-time president of the Foxwoods casino in Connecticut, and Gary Simpson, who served as senior vice president of finance and development of Aztar Corp., a former owner of Tropicana.

"...The commission stripped Tropicana of its gaming license Dec. 12 following a tumultuous year of mass job cuts, lagging customer service and unsanitary conditions under Columbia Sussex's reign. Columbia was deemed an unsuitable owner, which triggered the forced sale of Tropicana while it remains under the control of a state-appointed conservator, former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Gary S. Stein..."
