Churchill Will Conduct Milkshake Testing on Every Horse at Upcoming Meet26 April 2005KENTUCKY -- As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Churchill Downs will become the latest track in a growing list testing every horse entered for excess alkalizing agents when the Louisville track's spring-summer meet opens on Saturday. "Keeneland Association adopted a similar policy for its spring meet April 8-29 in Lexington to become the first Kentucky track to test for the alkalizing agents, also known as milkshakes. Churchill's program will be similar in that it will require every horse entered to submit to a blood test 45 minutes before post time. Failure to submit to the test will result in a scratch. "...As has been the standard among other jurisdictions rolling out milkshake testing policies this year, Churchill will consider a horse in violation of its house rule concerning milkshakes with a blood serum carbon dioxide level in excess of 37 millimoles per liter of plasma..." |
