Casino levy exemptions causing questions at Marina Bay Sands

INGAPORE -- An incident at the Marina Bay Sands with out of order lifts has raised questions about the casino levy, Channel News Asia reported.

15 diners forced to exit via the casino because lifts were out of order refused to pay $100 casino levy, the report said.

By not collecting the levy Marina Bay Sands could face discipline for breaking the Casino Control Act, Channel News Asia said.

Lawyers suggest the act needs tweaks to allow for emergencies, such as in the circumstances that occurred, the report noted.
