Blue Lake Casino Workers Fired22 July 2005BLUE LAKE, California – As reported by the Times-Standard: "Around one dozen Blue Lake Casino employees who had given advance notification that they would be leaving to work for a competitor were abruptly fired Tuesday. "According to Bear River Casino Table Games Manager Joe Claus, a Blue Lake Casino manager asked that Claus encourage defectors to give at least a one-month notice instead of the standard two weeks out of professional courtesy. He said his concern is that Bear River Casino does not open until Aug. 10 and new employees will have to work for a month before the pay cycle kicks in -- a long time to wait to pay for food, bills and rent. "…The official reason given to the group regarding the firing was that their leaving was causing too much of a disturbance at the casino and that the company had to protect its best interest. Nickie Reesman said she and others who were fired were pressured to give a written notice, and the following day those who complied were fired. "[Another employee, Der Xiong,] also said that the casino has decided to withhold their paychecks until the next pay period…" |
