Rants and Raves

1 October 2001

If you don't play the maximum amount of coins that your machine calls for, you won't have the opportunity to cash in on the jackpot. It's happened more than a few times on the Megabucks machine, and literally thousands of times on the video poker machines. When you play the machines you have to understand that the percentages are stacked against you. One of the things that actually help you is the rare chance that you'll hit the jackpot. True, it may not happen in your lifetime, but if you don't play the maximum amount of coins that your machine calls for you are doing yourself a disservice!

If it's a money issue, you are better off playing for lesser amounts. If you are a quarter player and play three coins on the machine, you are better off playing the nickel machine with maximum (5) coins. If you are only playing one or two coins on the Megabucks machine in hopes of a big payday, you are better off playing maximum coins on the Quartermania or a similar big payoff quarter machine. There are even some big payoff nickel machines. The point is ALWAYS play the maximum amount of coins that the machine you are playing calls for. Give yourselves a shot to win the jackpot!

Football is in full swing…Here are a couple of betting tips… In most cases you will be much better off if you bet the favorites early in the week and bet the underdogs just before kickoff time. Usually the herd mentality kicks in and the pointspread goes up on the day of the game if it moves at all. Also, the more successful handicappers that I know, make the bulk of their profits by betting underdogs.

Former World Series of Poker Champion Tom McEvoy (1983) is the new poker room manager and tournament director for next year's World Series of Poker. McEvoy is also a noted poker author where he shares his winning secrets in, "Tournament Poker". Tom hit poker's big parlay in 1983. First he won a satellite tournament that got him an entry into the $10,000 world championship. Then he won the big one. Tom was an accountant in Grand Rapids Michigan and took a flyer in the world of big time poker. I interviewed him in August and you can hear it in the archive section of www.audiovegas.com it's a FREE website.

"Most people make their own luck or create their own misfortune." - Tex Sheahan

"Play in the game you can beat, not in the game you'd like to beat." - Roy West

"Never be in a hurry to lose your money." - Brett Maverick

"Start with hands that are iffy and you'll go broke in a jiffy!" - George "Profit" Elias
