Fists A Flyin'

15 September 2003

Las Vegas is the boxing capital of the world with most of the major fights taking place here. In the glory years, some of the greatest fights took place in the parking lot behind Caesars Palace. Four of the best fighters of that era were Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Ray Leonard.

One of the participants, six-time world champion and Olympic gold medal winner Sugar Ray Leonard, is now a fight promoter. He's teaming up with the Boyd Gaming Corp. to bring a dual main event to the Stardust on September 5th. The world's No. 5-ranked junior middleweight Verno Phillips (35-8-1) takes on Michael Lerma (29-7-1). In the co-main event undefeated former world champion Lonnie Bradley (29-0-1) takes on hard-punching contender Nicholas Cervera (35-4-1). There will be four other fights on the undercard. Good seats are available and there will be wagering on the bouts.

On September 13th the long-awaited rematch between the ever popular Oscar De La Hoya (36-2, 29 KO's) and Shane Mosley (38-2, 35 KO's) will take place at the MGM Grand. Sugar Shane won a decision in their first meeting and Oscar has been looking forward to avenging his defeat. The Golden Boy has vowed that if he doesn't win he will retire.

Oscar is a -270 favorite. If you like the Sugar man, you get +210 on the takeback. That means you have to bet $270 on Oscar to win $100. If you like Shane you bet $100 to win $210.
Also, there will be many propositions available, including how you think the fight might end.

De La Hoya by Decision -110
De La Hoya by KO 2 to 1
Mosley by Decision11 to 5
Mosley by KO 13 to 5
12-round Draw 10 to 1

All odds are subject to change at any time.

There are many fight insiders who think De La Hoya will prevail and are hoping the odds will drop before fight time. Many times late money comes in on the underdog.

As always… good luck!
