Football Season Returns30 July 2003
There are many reasons for this, but I'll look at the human aspects rather than pace, rule changes and steroids. First of all, the present commissioner, Bud Selig has done the impossible, he has made in retrospect, Bowie Kuhn look half-way decent. If Selig was a sports bettor I'd always bet the other side. He has taken inept to depths that were once inconceivable. Next up is the Players Union. They never saw a strike or work stoppage that they didn't like. Their greed and lack of love of the game is so obvious that it doesn't deserve any more space wasted on them here. And then there's the owners Their greed over the years', not paying the players their rightful share, holding up communities to build stadiums with the taxpayers money or threatening to move, and on and on. These three powerful groups, have done their best to kill the most perfect of sports. Then incredibly they all wonder why fans aren't coming out to the games or following it like they once did. You don't piss on someone's leg and tell them it's raining. There are repercussions! I continue to boycott baseball, as I have since the strike year of 1994. I will not discuss on my radio show post-1994 baseball except for betting purposes during the post-season. Until they get a commissioner that puts the game AND its' fans first, I'll take the summer off and catch up on my reading. My nominees for new commissioner in no particular order are: Joe Morgan, Bob Costas, Jim Bunning, and Bill Bradley. Back to football Las Vegas is the best town in the world if you are a football bettor. There are sportsbooks all over town to bet college games on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday and Monday, and an assortment of games are also available on Thursday. You can watch many games at the same time on multiple big screen TV's. Also lots of drink and food specials make the day better than being at the ballpark. There are also many places that feature giveaways and special guests to add to the fun atmosphere. People that don't bet any other sports have been looking to this time of the year. Football is back and a grateful nation is ready to pony up to the betting window. One word of advice, take it easy in the early going. It's a long season and many good opportunities will present themselves in the not too distant future As Always
