Fight/Rants & Raves

1 September 2000

If you are looking for a fight that will live up to its' hype, check out the Johnny Tapia vs. Paulie Ayala match at the MGM grand garden on Saturday October 7. It's a rematch of last years fight of the year. In that fight in June 1999 Ayala narrowly outpointed Tapia. Both of these guys are warriors and fight with a lot of courage and heart. Fasten your seatbelts for this one folks! It will be a non-title fight that is scheduled for 10 rounds. The opening line had Tapia as the -170 favorite and Ayala at +150.

Have you seen the football tout shows on Saturday morning? The claims are getting more outrageous every year. It seems like these guys go 5-0 every week. And better yet if you call their 900 lines and pay for their selections you'll get a guaranteed 10,000 star play of the year! It's guaranteed. If it doesn't win, you get a free week's selections. Let me get this straight…If the guaranteed play doesn't win, you get more plays, that may or may not win. What about the money you lost on the original play? Consider yourself warned. If you fall for this phony nonsense you only have yourselves to blame. One other thing…Is a 100,000 star play 10 times more likely to win than a 10,000 star play? Is ANY play 10 times more likely to win than any other play? ABSOLUTELY NOT! These people could earn a more honest living selling swampland in the Everglades. Is there no shame?

Dennis Miller is a distraction on Monday Night Football. The grand experiment has utterly failed. Pay him off and admit that it doesn't work. The network got their moneys worth out of all the free publicity. I for one would much rather have the chair vacant or if you want a comedian, how about Chris Rock.

Always check out the pay tables BEFORE you play video poker. They vary from machine to machine. Look for machines that pay 9 coins for a full house and 6 coins for a flush. Also they should pay 2 coins for two pair.

Just read a very interesting book about the casino industry by Las Vegas journalist Jeff Burbank. It's titled, "License To Steal" and is a fascinating look at some of the stories that make Las Vegas and the gaming industry so compelling.

As Always…Good Luck!
