You won't see a lot of bettors laying the five or nine, as most of the lay bets go behind the fours and tens. Plus, the 5% vig (on winnings) charged on lay bets seems to reserve lay bets only for the 4s and 10s.

If you are a don't bettor, you are familiar with using lay bets to choose a number to bet against without going through the don't come box. However, you have to pay a 5% vig on the amount of your winnings. So if you laid the four (or ten) for $40, it would have a payoff of $20. ... (read more)

When you place the 6/8 you get 7:6 odds, so when you bet $180 you win $210.
When you LAY the 6/8 you get 5:6 odds, so when you bet $210 you get $175, less vig.

When the table is hot and getting payouts on come bets (taking 2x odds) from time to time, the dealer yells, "off and on" for x$. I assume this is based on your previous odds, and the place bet on the number that just hit. Is this right?
