Quick-takes: November's trends in a glance.

30 November 2006
Another great month for the economy. Gas prices still going down; the price of crude oil closed the month under $60, almost $20 lower than its high point in July; interest rates are stable and the DOW moved over 12,000 for the first time ever. Retail sales should be up based on Halloween sales; Halloween sales were the largest ever, nearly double last years. ... (read more)

November's bits and pieces from Indian Country

30 November 2006
Nothing significant has happened in Washington as the members of the House and Congress, the President and his cabinet and everyone else with a cause and pulpit spent October campaigning. That does not mean they won't return and return to making laws that will impact Indian gaming. Efforts to restrict ... (read more)

Bits and Pieces from Indian Country - September 2006

12 November 2006
Washington is an interesting state for gambling. Long thought by gaming observers to be a conservative, almost anti-gambling state, it has proven on closer examination to be very much a pro-gambling state. Even before Indian gaming, gambling was big in Washington. The total revenues from the lottery, charitable bingo, and pull tabs were over a billion dollars. ... (read more)

Quicktakes: The month's trends in a glance - September 2006

11 November 2006
The summer is ending; gas prices are predicted to come down as Americans take to the road for the last of the summer’s trips. Consumer confidence fell in August to the lowest since November, rattled, the pundits say, by expensive gasoline and a slowing housing market. Interest rates and housing sales are certainly going to make the headlines for the next couple of months. ... (read more)

Quicktakes: The month's trends in a glance - October 2006

31 October 2006
The stock market is up to record highs and the price of oil is down; consumers are confident and except for home sales it feels just like the go-go days of yesteryear. And all of the good news applies to gaming revenue across the country as well, except of course Mississippi; however, beginning in ... (read more)

Bits and Pieces from Indian Country - October 2006

31 October 2006
Indian gaming fared better than the Internet in Congress. A bill to limit a tribe's ability to establish a casino off of its traditional reservation failed to gain the number of votes necessary for approval. The story is much like that of the Internet bill: it is more about Washington politics and less about the bill. ... (read more)

Bits and Pieces from Indian Country - August 2006

12 October 2006
Indian gaming is stuck in the same mire in Washington as the Internet; each congressman and representative is eager to show that he or she had nothing to do with Abramoff, his causes, or his associates. Indian gaming is also caught in the election rhetoric and politics. That may mean that one of the ... (read more)

Quicktakes: The month's trends in a glance - August 2006

11 October 2006
A new month, a new war, and new record highs for oil prices. Actually, none of that is really new. We have a July every year, Israel has been at war since the founding of the state, and oil prices were higher thirty years ago if you adjust the price for inflation. Gaming didn’t report anything ... Bits and Pieces from Indian Country - July 2006

12 September 2006
If the reports on national and international gaming trends were favorable, this year's Indian Gaming Industry Report was even better. Indian gaming grew by 15.6 percent for the year, the 10th consecutive year of 15 percent growth. It is driven this year in large part by the expansion in Oklahoma, ... (read more)

Quick-takes: The month's trends in a glance - July 2006

11 September 2006
The stock market continued its uncertain up and down ride throughout June - taking gaming stocks with it for the most part. The feds are still fighting inflation and raising rates, making investors nervous - or so the pundits say. If it makes anyone feel better the world markets are suffering the same trends. ...
