Ken Adams Gaming Guru - Page 12Quicktakes - The month's trends in a glance - November 200314 January 2004
The economy continues to show very strong growth, although the
Dow Jones Industrial Average did not change much during November, finishing the
month down slightly. Overall gaming results were not dramatic either, most jurisdictions
had modest growth at best, but Wall Street and the rest of us will have to adjust
to that trend, as gaming is no longer a growth industry. ... (read more)
Bits and Pieces from Indian Country - November 200314 January 2004
Indian gaming is governed by a complex relationship between federal
and state laws as well as the tribal state compacts that are individual to each
tribe and each state. Because of the complexity, there is no simple easy-to-understand
guide to Indian gaming law or to Indian gaming in general. Therefore, it is difficult
to identify trends or to make broad statements about Indian gaming. ... (read more)

The Dow Jones Industrials
is flirting with the magical 10,000, closing the month at 9800 - the highest
month-end since May 2002. GDP increased at a dramatic pace and most of the
rest of economic benchmarks are looking better; the economy appears to be healthy
and growing.

California continues to dominate the Indian gaming landscape.

The Dow Jones may

fell), housing and job markets improved, while summer gasoline prices pushed
the Consumer Price Index up. ... (read more)
Quick-takes: The month's trends in a glance - August 200331 August 2003
The summer season is officially over; it is almost time for
our annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Be prepared to be inundated by thousands of
new products. IGT alone promises 300 new games, Aristocrat is bringing enough
new product to "gain market share in Nevada," and others, like Alliance, Atronics, ... (read more)
Bits and Pieces from Indian Country - August 200331 August 2003
If you live or have an interest in Northern Nevada, the story
of the summer is the Thunder Valley Casino, operated by Station Casinos Inc.
for the United Auburn Indian Community near Sacramento, California. The property
taps directly into Reno's life line, Interstate Highway 80, and
symbolizes the impact of Indian gaming in California on Nevada. ... (read more)
Quick-takes: The month's trends in a glance - July 200331 July 2003
Another month removed from war, the evil sons have been eliminated,
only daddy left to find, electricity and oil almost equal the guns in the nightly
news coverage, and the economy seems to finally be on a serious mending trend.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has been over the 9,000 level for ... (read more)
Bits and Pieces from Indian Country - July 200331 July 2003
Gaming is not a one-size-fits-all industry. Not only are the
regulations and taxes different in every jurisdiction, but there is an entirely
separate category, Indian gaming. The rules and costs are different in Indian
country and increasingly so are the results. Gaming in Indian country, in ... (read more)
Quick-takes: The month's trends in a glance - June 200330 June 2003
The war is relegated to page 2, and it's the third or fourth
story on the evening news. The economy is improving, if slowly. The feds have
lowered interest rates to new 45-year lows, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average
is back in the 9,000 range. Things are looking up.
Or are they? The news ... (read more)
