Ask the Slot Expert: The one about The Desert Inn limo

17 September 2025
The landscaper drove her little utility vehicle onto the triangular island at the corner of the intersection. I'm lucky that the intersection I walk through most frequently has an island at each corner. The right-turn-only lane that comes into existence before each corner creates the third side of the triangle. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: When all will be revealed

10 September 2025
I watched many game shows over the summer to avoid doing tasks around the house. That's the reality, but I justified watching the shows by thinking that I should get more use out of the multiple streaming services to which I subscribe. I've seen a disturbing trend over the past few years. Game shows don't ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Killing time cheaply at a slot machine

3 September 2025
I use my MoviePass subscription to purchase most of my movie tickets. MoviePass is a service that gives you a certain number of credits each month based on your membership level. You trade those credits for movie tickets. The MoviePass app tells you how many credits you have to use to get a ticket for a particular movie showing on the current day. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: On !mpossible game show, the worst you can do is also the best you can do

27 August 2025
Last week my homework assignment for you was to look at two situations in a British game show and explain why the worst outcome a contestant could have in one phase of the game is the same as the best outcome. The game show is !mpossible. In most parts of the game, contestants have to answer multiple-choice questions. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: On !mpossible game show, worst equals best

19 August 2025
A few months ago, a new row appeared on my Amazon Prime home page. The heading on the row is "On now." I had been watching some British game shows on Amazon, so I wasn't surprised that many of the tiles were for British programs. Clicking on one of the tiles in this row is like going back in time, back before video on demand, DVRs, and even VCRs. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: In which category does video poker belong in a promotion?

13 August 2025
Question: A while ago, I received an upcoming multiplier day offer from Caesars, 5X Slots and 10X Table Games. They haven't responded to my question but maybe you can get the answer: Which category for this promotion is Video Poker? Answer: Well, you didn't tell me which property or properties participate in this promotion. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Are gamblers tipping less?

6 August 2025
A recent Question of the Day on the Las Vegas Advisor website was whether they thought if No Tax on Tips would cause people to tip less. After all, a tax-free $x tip is now worth as much as a taxed $x+y tip. I never heard anyone justify why a tipped employee making $x per year in wages and tips should pay less in taxes than a salaried or hourly employee making the exact same amount without tips. ... Ask the Slot Expert: Big, beautiful bill bilks bettors

30 July 2025
It was all over the news in Las Vegas a few weeks ago, but it may not have been as big a story on your local news. A provision in the big, beautiful bill (BBB) could cause gamblers to play less in casinos. Obscurely placed in Section 70114, the new law removes the ability for gamblers to deduct 100% of their losses from their winnings from their income taxes. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Notes from my gaming legal pad

23 July 2025
The headline caught my attention: "Suit: Wheel of Fortune slot bonus wheel rigged". My first thought: Well, duh! (My first thought, actually, referenced a certain literary detective residing at 221B Baker Street.) Read these quotes from the article in the Las Vegas Review Journal and see if you can find ... Ask the Slot Expert: Increase line bet or denomination?

16 July 2025
Question: I enjoyed your article about your Mo' Mummy experience. On all slots, I tend to play the 2@1 option when I can...mainly because when my win shows up, I can multiply it by 2 and feel like I won a lot more. My question is do you think my odds are better playing this way? (I seldom play Mo' ... (read more)
