Ask the Slot Expert: How Class II slots work

11 November 2015
I am confused about Class II slot games. Can you explain how they work? The classes of gaming are defined in the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA). According to IGRA's Wikipedia entry, Class I gaming includes traditional Indian gaming, which may be part of tribal ceremonies and celebrations and social gaming for minimal prizes. ... Ask the Slot Expert: Was I cheated by this slot machine?

21 October 2015
I recently played a 5-reel, 9-line Top Dollar machine. I played all nine lines and landed Top Dollar symbols in the top position on the first reel, the middle position on the second reel, and the top position on the third reel. They told me I was not a winner. Are they right or are they wrong? I believe ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Did a Class II slot cheat me?

7 October 2015
About twice a month my work sends me past an Indian casino. I have been playing the Monte Carlo Royale slot machine there. So far I am ahead of the game, but I wanted to know if you could provide your advice on if or when to place the max bet ($5). The machine takes at least $1 per play. I stick a ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: I'm a lucky charm for other slot players

30 September 2015
QUESTION: I have been dealing with the issue of big spenders winning on their max bets to my measly minimum bet and it pisses me off they always seem to be sitting next to me. I feel like their "lucky charm." I actually do win small amounts with my bets but have a problem leaving when breaking even or up a little. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Caught using someone else's free slot play

23 September 2015
A friend of mine who lives out of state lets me use his slot free play when he's not in town. I was unaware he was coming into town and used his free slot play. He was unaware I had already used it and thought the casino just didn't give it to him. Long story short, the casino found out I was using it with his permission and now has suspended all free slot play. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Misaligned W-2Gs

16 September 2015
Aren’t there any requirements for the casino to provide legible W-2Gs to the players? This is the second time I received the forms that are horribly misaligned from the casino. The numbers you need for your tax forms are lined up such that you can barely read the numbers. I brought it to the slot ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Changing the hit frequency on a mechanical slot machine

9 September 2015
Can you tell me if there's an adjustment on Mills mechanical slots to increase the frequency of payouts? I can't find anything about it in the service manual I have. Granted, I know it's normally a game of chance, but it would be a little more interesting if it paid out more often. I have a 1948 Golden Nugget machine, most likely a reproduction. ... Ask the Slot Expert: Do MyVegas rewards decrease Mlife comps?

2 September 2015
First, let me say that I love your articles! It sometimes creates disputes between my wife and me because she refuses to believe slot machine outcomes are random. It's very entertaining. I was wondering whether the sudden explosion of popularity of Mlife's MyVegas slots on Facebook has an effect on the comps you receive while playing real slots in the casino. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: There is no proof that slot machines are not rigged

26 August 2015
You would make a great politician. While trying to answer the reader's question "Is there proof that slot machines are not rigged?" you did everything except answer the question honestly. You gave the typical political runaround while trying to build your case for slot regulations, government regulators, state gaming commissions, as all being completely honest and above reproach. ... Ask the Slot Expert: Is there proof that slot machines are not rigged?

19 August 2015
I was wondering about video poker machines and blackjack machines. Is there proof that they are not rigged somehow? In other words, the RNG is programmed to do its normal thing but, say, every 100 hands if it lands on a certain number that it somehow deletes the pick or changes it? A number of years ...
