Ask the Slot Expert: Slot machine pay table quiz - answers

4 September 2019
Sometimes it's difficult to figure out why a machine has paid you what it paid you when the game has multiplying wild symbols. A few days ago I was playing a three-reel, single-line video slot from Everi called Fascination. I had a few combinations land on the payline that took me a while to figure out why they paid what they did. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: PAR sheets for today's slots

21 August 2019
Question: I’ve seen PAR sheets for older machines, but do PAR sheets exist for the latest generation of slots – for instance, Dragon Link, Lightning Link or Mighty Cash machines? These latest generation machines seem at least an order of magnitude more complex than earlier machines, and I am wondering if the Volatility Index is still published. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: A warning about the Bet One button on a video poker machine

14 August 2019
In past columns we've talked about hitting the Deal button versus hitting the Bet Max button while playing video poker. We've rarely mentioned the Bet One button, though. Players have to ensure that they know how much will be bet when they hit the Bet Max button, but surely nothing can go wrong using the ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Do you get more favorable results when you bet more on a slot machine?

7 August 2019
Question: I would like to know if the reels spin any differently if you play minimum or maximum coin in? Seems to me that more favorable reel results happen when you play higher amounts. Answer: Slot regulations specify that the result dictated by the RNG must be displayed and that the RNG must be free of any outside influences, like the number of coins played. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: More on Washington's Tribal Lottery System

31 July 2019
Question: I had asked about Washington's VLTs and the betting system, and have found an answer to the question I asked you. [See last week's column.] I searched all the machines at my local casino and discovered that only some of the progressives have a bet modifier. The other games give you the choice of fewer reels/lines with no modifiers, or max reels/max lines with "modifiers". ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: The Tribal Lottery System in Washington State

24 July 2019
Question: I live in Washington, where we have the Tribal Lottery System, wherein the casinos use the scratch ticket-like method for their slots. My understanding is that: each game set is premade and divided into subsets, which may or may not be rotating subsets, AND tickets from these subsets ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Buffalo Diamond machine atones for low-paying bonus round

17 July 2019
Last week we talked about how frustrating it is to finally get to the bonus round on a game and then win a paltry sum from it. This past weekend I was at the Suncoast to use a coupon for a free entree at its Chinese restaurant and to play the kiosk game. I got there about 20 minutes before the Chinese ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Experiences playing 88 Fortunes

10 July 2019
Question: I read your response to the question on the 88 Fortunes bonus round with great interest. It is interesting to watch the player next to you carefully selecting the bonus coins as if what they selected had any influence on the predetermined outcome. I let them enjoy the game as they want to and ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Advantage play on VLTs in Washington

3 July 2019
Question: Your article on 88 Fortunes was helpful. I am in Washington state with VLTs and the rice bowl does indeed appear to be deceptive. I am reading around trying to determine which machines at my local casino might have advantage play and, for that matter, if the RNG machine titles that are good for advantage play are also good for advantage play in Washington state. ...
