John Robison Gaming Guru - Page 26Ask the Slot Expert: My casino Christmas wish list29 December 2021
This week I'm sharing my Casino Christmas Wish List. I waited until after Christmas to share it for a few reasons. First, I wasn't entirely sure whether I was on the Naughty List or the Nice List. Second, I wanted to make sure that Santa got my list before I posted it. And third, I didn't get the idea ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: Do the machines in New York's racinos really pay back 90%?22 December 2021
Question: I gamble at local racinos in upstate New York. I have read that the LTR machines are supposed to pay back anywhere from 90 to 94% of credits played. But I have been gambling for many years at these locations and the LTR machines definitely do not pay back anywhere near 90 to 94% of credit ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: Pressing someone's buttons can win you a jackpot15 December 2021
Question: I have two friends that went to Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore, CA. Friend #1 sits at slot and starts playing and goes to bonus round of 8 spins. On the second bonus spin she hits the GRAND JACKPOT of $15,700. She gets dizzy and feels like passing out. Then moves from chair and friend #2 sits on chair and finishes the other six spins. ... Ask the Slot Expert: A ticket too large8 December 2021
My luck had changed the past week, so I started off with a sizable ticket when I sat down to play NSU at Suncoast. This machine continued to make amends for the stinginess of most of the NSU machines I've played during the summer and fall. In addition to my fair share (probably more than my fair share) of premium hands, I also got a set of deuces. ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: Those elusive deuces1 December 2021
Suncoast has six video poker machines with NSU Deuces. Only one machine has no glare from the overhead lights. Only one machine has the sound turned on, ever so slightly. They are not the same machine.
I had played the glare-free machine most of the time. I would even get up early on 10x points days to beat the other knowledgeable players to the machine. ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: Where have all the deuces gone?24 November 2021
Robin, the Boy Wonder, picked up the parchment he found on the casino floor.
"Holy video poker, Batman. The Riddler left another one of his diabolical riddles."
"Read it, Robin," said the Caped Crusader.
"When is playing NSU Deuces like playing 9/6 Jacks or Better?" said Robin. "This is a tough one, Batman."
"I think I know the answer, old chum. ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: More adventures in cashless gaming at the slots17 November 2021
Last week I received an email from the STN Cash (Station Casinos' system for cashless gaming at slot machines) support team. The email said that they were making some changes based on feedback from players.
The biggest change is in how cashing out is handled. After I had signed the account agreement and funded my account at the cage, I played a machine and hit the Cash Out button. ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: Bonus Roundus Interruptus10 November 2021
About 11am, Tuesday morning, Suncoast Casino. I had just played 2000 hands of NSU. Another loss. At least it wasn't a shellacking like some recent sessions. Even though I had to feed the machine more times than I think I should have, at least I got some play for my money.
Next stops: my preferred Quick Hit machines. ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: Why I sometimes don't report a problem with a slot machine3 November 2021
I used to have a blanket recommendation that players alert slot floor staff to problems with machines. I still recommend that players alert the casino when a machine malfunctions. If there's only a minor problem, like a sticky button or a poorly aligned touch screen, I'm more likely to work around the ... (read more)
Ask the Slot Expert: Cashless Gaming at Slot Machines, Part Deux27 October 2021
I took my relationship with cashless gaming at slot machines to the next level. Last week I had created my STN Cash (Stations Cash) account and discovered that once you had a cashless account linked to your player card, anytime you cashed out with your player card in the reader, your credits go to your cashless account -- even if you didn't use the STN Cash app to put money on the machine. ...
