How do I tip my slot host?30 November 2009
Each casino has its own rules regarding tipping slot hosts, but as a general rule hosts are prohibited from accepting any cash tip and gifts worth more than, say, $25. Players have made homemade cookies and pies for their hosts. You can also pick up pastries from the coffee shop at the hotel for your host. You can check Jean Scott's book The Frugal Gambler for more ideas about how to give a gift to your host and stay within the casino's guidelines. I think the best thing you can do for your host, however, is to write a letter to your host or your host's boss and say how much you appreciate your host's efforts on your behalf and how your host is one of the reasons you keep coming back to this casino. Your letter may help your host get a raise -- and that's a gift that keeps on giving. Best of luck in and out of the casinos, Send your slot and video poker questions to John Robison, Slot Expert, at slotexpert@comcast.net. Because of the volume of mail I receive, I regret that I can't reply to every question. This article is provided by the Frank Scoblete Network. Melissa A. Kaplan is the network's managing editor.
