Ask the Slot Expert: Still banned for complaining18 October 2023
Answer: I posted this writer's first letter a month ago, Banned for complaining? To briefly recap, the writer was a loyal customer at a casino for many years. She thought this casino was very tight and wrote a "very polite" letter to her host about it. The host replied that he was banning her because of the words she used. A year later, she wrote another letter and left a voicemail to apologize. She didn't get a response. I don't know who said it first, but it is said that women want to just talk about a problem but men want to fix it. The writer didn't ask for a solution. She just wanted to vent. That didn't stop me from suggesting some solutions. I started by saying that banning her seemed like an extreme action. I don't think a Las Vegas casino would do that under the same circumstances. Though I didn't question the veracity of her letter, I said that I sometimes wonder whether the incidents some correspondents write to me about really happened or whether they left out something. I left out something important in my recap. She also said that she wrote in her letter to her host that "it was unbearable to me that I had lost this much." Taking that statement into account, I don't think the casino had any choice but to ban her. A player has declared that the amount she has lost is "unbearable." Advantage players have gotten reinstated at some casinos, so there may be hope for you. It requires persistence but not pestering. You can try another letter in 14-18 months. But you might have to write off this casino -- especially if they think you're a threat. I'm left wondering two things. What did you say write that made the casino think you were a threat? And what did the casino say that made you think that they thought you were a threat? In any case, it's the casino's game. And if it's the only casino in town, then it's the only game in town. Legislators may think they're doing the right thing by spreading out casinos, but what they're actually doing is creating legal monopolies. I'm not saying that every Main Street should be the Vegas Strip, but if you're going to allow one casino in an area, allow another one not too far away so there is some competition. I'm sure you'll be welcome in Wendover. If you would like to see more non-smoking areas on slot floors in Las Vegas, please sign my petition on change.org.
