Ask the Slot Expert: Perchance to dream of big slot wins

29 July 2026

On the Faceless Man episode of House of the Dragon, viewers of the show found out that Princess Helaena has "dragon dreams" -- prophetic dreams. Her dreams reveal the location of her brother-husband, which her mother/mother-in-law tells to her childhood friend and current frenemy, Queen Rhaenyra.

I wish my dreams about playing slots would come true.

In one dream I won a $10,000+ grand jackpot on a machine with a lock-and-spin bonus with a minimum bet. It's possible on many machines. Readers have written that they have won the Grand on a minimum bet. I've seen it happen in YouTube videos. On July 4, I saw a picture of a minimum-bet Grand jackpot win on someone's phone. A few weeks ago, it happened to a lady playing near me.

I had another, vivid dream about playing slots recently.

The dream began in the middle of an incredible winning streak. I won on spin after spin.

I was doing so well I attracted an audience. Real-life incidents might have triggered this element of the dream. I had a small audience when I had climbed quite high on the jackpot ladder in the bonus round on a Quick Hit Blitz machine. In addition, I once gathered a small cheering section when I kept winning free games playing a Buffalo machine.

During the winning streak in my dream, a dinosaur appeared in one of the positions on the reels. The dinosaur ate a plant that appeared in the neighboring position. The animation heralded the bonus round or a sizable win to follow.

I eventually had so many people watching that they were suddenly in seats and there was a large video screen above the machine. I think this might have been inspired by e-gaming arenas.

The big screen was divided into three parts like a triptych. Why? I don't know.

As I was playing, my friend was next to me. I knew him in the dream, but he's not someone I know in real life.

He was smoking a cigar. I was going to ask him to stop, but the cigar didn't smell. That proves this happened in a dream.

On one spin, an animation appeared on the leftmost section of the big screen. I could see the images in the dream, but now all I can remember is a gray screen.

The animation appeared before a big win. A counter tallying my winnings appeared in the center of the screen. I hoped it would go over $10,000. I was very disappointed when it stopped around $1600.

I wanted the dream to continue, but my internal clock told me that it was getting late. I remember feeling in the dream that it was time to wake up.

I had overslept. But can you really say you've overslept when you don't have to get up at a certain time?

I hope my dream of big slot winnings comes true, but none of my other dreams have been prophetic.
