Ask the Slot Expert: In which category does video poker belong in a promotion?

13 August 2025

Question: A while ago, I received an upcoming multiplier day offer from Caesars, 5X Slots and 10X Table Games. They haven't responded to my question but maybe you can get the answer:

Which category for this promotion is Video Poker?

Answer: Well, you didn't tell me which property or properties participate in this promotion. I searched for this promotion happening in Las Vegas in the next few weeks, but didn't find any mentions on the Caesars website. That didn't worry me because promotions offered to select groups of customers aren't necessarily advertised. I'll take my best guess based on similar promotions I found online.

I assume that the quantity we're multiplying are Tier Credits and not Reward Credits. Tier-credit multiplier promotions are fairly plentiful, while reward-credit multiplier promotions are not, unless Caesars has regular multiplier days like many of Las Vegas' locals casinos.

I don't know because I haven't been to Caesars Palace in over a decade. No, wait, I lie. I walked through Caesars to get to the Forum Shops a few times in the past few years to have a watch serviced at the Tourneau store and the Breitling store.

I stayed at Caesars a few times 20 or so years ago. I stayed there when Bellagio opened. That was convenient because I could relax on my bed and watch TV for a few hours after Bellagio's doors first opened and then go across the street to take a look after the crowds had thinned out a bit.

I also saw a film at the OmniMax theater that used to be there more years ago than I'd care to say.

Caesars Palace used to have some playable video poker. I remember playing in one area where there were 9/6 Jacks machines side-by-side with 8/5 Jacks machines. I was amazed that some people played 8/5 when there was 9/6 nearby.

On one trip I had offers at the Desert Inn and Caesars. I stayed at the DI first. You wanna see a mad cabbie, go to the taxi line at DI with your luggage. When you get in and the cabbie is thinking about how much he's going to earn from taking you to the airport, tell him that you just want to go a mile down the road. It was a quick ride. Both because it was short and because he drove very fast.

One thing I found surprising about both Caesars and the DI is that they would each mail me all sorts of wonderful offers, but there was no way to earn a buffet or even the casino rate at my level of play.

I better take the next exit off memory lane.

When the categories are Slots and Table Games, the distinction is between the slot floor and the table games pit. All Electronic Gaming Devices should fall in the Slots category. If video poker should be lumped in with slots, that will be specified, as in the common pre-Covid point multiplier spec of 10X Slots/6x Video Poker.

I can't see any justification for arguing that video poker should be in the Table Games category.

Sorry, you won't get 10x tier credits for playing video poker with this promotion.
