Ask The Slot Expert

3 July 2003

I love slot machines, but only get to play about once a year. I don't know how to read them, determine pay outs, and don't know what you mean by "single multipliers" and other names I just read in your newsletter.

I only get to spend about two hundred dollars when I go to Lousiana. Harrah's this last time, Horseshoe before that. We always go in March, for our anniversary.

In July, we'll be going out on the Texas Treasure gambling ship. Do you know anything about their slots?

I'm afraid to play anything else, since I have so little money and no gambling skills. Where can I learn about these different machines? Do you have newsletters that define what a single multiplier means, etc.?

Thanks,
Sharon

Dear Sharon,

My article on May 8 covers how to recognize the different types of machines. You can find other articles I've written about the different types of machines in the archives.

I also describe the machines in my book The Slot Expert's Guide to Playing Slots.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the slots on the Texas Treasure.

Best of luck in and out of the casinos,
John

John,

Can you recommend a good book that would teach me the strategy for playing Deuces Wild properly? Can you also recommend a website that I can buy the book from as I'm sure my local bookstore wouldn't carry it?

Thanks,
Bruce

Dear Bruce,

Two books I recommend are Victory at Video Poker by Frank Scoblete and The Video Poker Answer Book by John Grochowski. Both are published by Bonus Books. Your local bookstore can order them for you.

If you prefer to purchase online, they are available at Amazon.com.

Best of luck in and out of the casinos,
John

Hi,

I recently visited Atlantic City, and played the Survivor: Wild and Loose $1 slot machine. I played it literally for hours on end.

I know it's all random, but is there any pattern at all to this unit?

Which is the best "challenge" to choose of the 3? Sometimes the firewalker would go to 400, and sometimes jump off the coals at 30. Is there a pattern to this?

Just curious.

Thanks.

Is there a pattern? No, the results are chosen at random therefore there cannot be a pattern.

No challenge is best. There's no way to know which one will give you the highest bonus.

Best of luck in and out of the casinos,
John
