Ask The Slot Expert

25 October 2001

Here's an incident that happened recently at an Atlantic City casino.

Two guys were playing a two-coin $5 Pink Panther machine and hit the jackpot. On the glass, it said the jackpot pays $4,000 when you play one coin and 10,000 coins when you play two. When they hit the jackpot, the screen said, "Congratulations! You have won 2,000 credits!"

Here's everything expressed in dollars. The glass said the jackpot paid $4,000 when you played one coin and $50,000 ("10,000 coins") when you played two. The screen said they won $10,000 ("2,000 credits").

The glass was wrong by $40,000. Other $5 machines that do not have this wacky glass clearly state that the jackpot is $10,000 for two coins.

The casino paid them $10,000. They accepted the money and filed a complaint with the Casino Control Commission.

How much should the casino have paid them and why? Send your opinions to me at my e-mail address below and I'll post the responses and my opinion of what should have been done in a future article.
