Dear John,
I have walked up to a slot machine, put one coin in a three-coin machine, and hit a good jackpot. Would I have hit it if I had put in two or three coins?
Maybe. Maybe not.
Some slot machines determine which symbols to land on the payline as soon as you indicate you want to play by dropping in a coin, pressing the bet one button, or pressing the bet max button. Others wait until you actually start the game by pressing the spin button, pressing the bet max button, or pulling the handle.
If the slot uses the first method, then you would still have gotten the jackpot. If it uses the second, then the few extra seconds it took you to bet another coin or two would cause the spin to have a different outcome.
Best of luck in and out of the casinos!
John
