Ask The Slot Expert

5 July 2001

Dear John,

We went to Mohegan Sun recently and found a video poker game we never played before. You complete your hand by selecting one of two cards exposed five times until your hand is complete. What is the payback %? What pay schedule should I look for? Also, are the multi-pay machines worth playing? I hit a royal and received $4295, $4000 for the royal, $250 for the straight flush, $25 for the flush and $20 for the straight. It's a Kings or Better machine and next to impossible to program on Bob Dancer Presents WinPoker software.

Thanks for your help,
Frank

Dear Frank:

I have heard of the first video poker machine you mentioned, and I think I played it a year or two ago at the World Gaming Congress Exposition, but I don't know the payback for it or what paytables are available. If you could send me the paytable, perhaps I or one of the readers of Frank Scoblete's Gaming Pages can calculate the payback.

As for the second video poker machine, you're right. I don't think WinPoker can handle a multi-pay machine. Whether or not they're worth playing depends on two factors. First, is the payback competitive with the other video poker offered in the casino. And second, do you like playing the machines. I don't know the paybacks for the multi-pay paytables, but I would imagine that the payback on the machine you played is about the same as that of other video poker machines of the same denomination in that casino. So it really comes down to whether or not you enjoy playing the machine.

Best of luck in and out of the casinos!
John

Dear John,

I know that this isn't about slots, but please do you or Frank know anything about betting on basketball or football? I would greatly appreciate an answer. I am a devoted reader of your writings. I also have a lot of Frank's books.

Thank you,
Markus

Dear Markus,

I'm sorry. Neither I nor Frank know anything about sports betting. Plus, we don't have anyone regularly contributing articles about sports betting to our site, but John May and Fred Renzey occasionally write an article about it. If anyone would like to contribute articles about sports betting, either on a regular or occasional basis, please send me an e-mail at the address below.

Other sections of RGT Online, particularly the Sports Desk and Gambling Tips, have information about sports betting.

Best of luck in and out of the casinos!
John
