Are casinos responsible for lost tickets?4 January 2010
Thanks for the kind words about my column. The examples of lost tickets we've had the past few weeks all had happy endings for the people who lost the tickets. They reported the loss before someone tried to redeem the tickets, so the casino was able to void the lost tickets and issue new ones. But what if someone had already redeemed the tickets? This is when the notice comes into effect. How is the casino to know whether someone truly lost a ticket? Someone could be running a scam in which he or a confederate redeems a ticket and then he reports it missing. Moreover, there's only so much a casino can do if someone redeems your ticket. The casino probably has surveillance footage of the person, but if he or she is not known by the casino, it will have a hard time trying to get your money back. Best of luck in and out of the casinos, Send your slot and video poker questions to John Robison, Slot Expert, at slotexpert@comcast.net. Because of the volume of mail I receive, I regret that I can't reply to every question. This article is provided by the Frank Scoblete Network. Melissa A. Kaplan is the network's managing editor.
