A Shuffle Through the Gaming Mailbag

10 October 2006
Q. I recently visited a casino that had an 80-for-1 payoff (400 for max coins) instead of the common 50-to-1 payoff for a straight flush on a 9-7-5 Double Bonus machine. All the other payouts were the usual ones I am used to. Do you sell a strategy card for this type of payout table (or know where I can ... (read more)

Following My Own Advice

3 October 2006
I'm often asked if I follow my own advice when I play in casinos. Do I really refuse even money when I have a blackjack and the dealer has an Ace face up? Do I really steer clear of the one-roll propositions in craps? Do I really bet the max on every spin on a progressive slot machine? The answers are yes, yes, yes --- with the proviso that I don't play progressive slot machines all that much. ... (read more)

Elvis Meets Multi-Strike

26 September 2006
Don't let any old Hound Dog tell you different. Leading Edge Design and IGT have a solid gold hit on their hands. Pair the King of Rock 'n' Roll with the enhanced payoffs of Leading Edge's Multi-Strike format, and you have a game that cries out "Love Me Tender." Elvis Multi-Strike, the latest game from the designers of Multi-Strike Poker, is ready to rock through the Midwest. ... (read more)

Can Fibonacci Help Us Win at Slots?

19 September 2006
I understand three-reel slot players who always bet maximum coins. On most machines, your payback percentage is highest when you bet the max. I also understand three-reel slot players who don't bet the max --- except, of course, for those who play progressives. There's no point to playing a progressive ... (read more)

eCOGRA Surveys Online Players

12 September 2006
Internet gambling has grown into a $12 billion a year industry, with half that coming from American players. Though the federal government holds online gambling to be illegal in the United States, that's much too big a beast just to ignore. While Congress fights over whether to specifically outlaw ... Why Video Poker Pros Always Play Full Coin

5 September 2006
Video poker games that pay in excess of 100 percent with expert play are practically non-existent in the Midwest, and even in Nevada they're getting scarcer all the time. A fellow named Jack games such as full-pay Deuces Wild and 10-7-5 Double Bonus Poker on his mind when he phone me recently. "There are ... (read more)

2006 World Series of Poker Winners

29 August 2006
If you hadn't heard before now that Jaime Gold is the winner of the 2006 World Series of Poker No-Limit Texas Hold'em Championship … well, you must have had the TV turned off and skipped reading the papers. Gold is a former Hollywood agent who once counted James Gandolfini among his clients, and that he produced 10-time WSOP winner Johnny Chan's instructional poker DVD. ... (read more)

Extra Money, Indeed

22 August 2006
Chances are you've heard about the great slot mistake at Caesars Indiana, where the credit meter on an Extra Money slot machine was ringing up credits to the tune of 10 times the amount of cash actually slid into the bill validator. The casino lost $487,000 on the machine in two days, and was contemplating ... (read more)

The World Craps Championship

15 August 2006
It was Saturday, July 22, about 8:30 in the morning as I pulled up at the Atrium Suites hotel in Las Vegas, ready to roll in Frank Scoblete's World Craps Championship. In the corridor outside the ballroom were some old friends. Fellow authors Scoblete and Henry Tamburin --- I always enjoy our get-togethers. ... (read more)

A Shuffle Through the Gaming Mailbag

8 August 2006
Q. I just got done reading two video poker books and I must say that there are some things in there that completely contradict what I read in your book among the others that use "expected value" and math as the basis. The first book talks about some error in these imperfect random number generator chips that makes aces pop up more often. ... (read more)
