Jerry Stickman Gaming Guru - Page 31The odds19 May 2018
Jerry: I have a point that concerns the fallacy of adjusting our vig calculation when taking odds. Let’s exaggerate an example. Say we have a $10 line bet and $5 million in odds. The odds bet has NO vig, ergo ‘no money at risk.’ Over time one will break even on all odds bets. Also over time we will lose approximately $0.14 on our $10 bet. ... (read more)
Good, bad and ugly blackjack games28 April 2018
Blackjack has been around casinos for decades. It is available in virtually every casino that allows table games. It is by far the most popular table game. Blackjack games, in general, have among the lowest house edges of all casino table games. Scores of books have been written about how to play this game. ... (read more)
The random number generator7 April 2018
Hi Stickman, I took your slot class a while back. I remember you saying that the number generator in the slot machine is constantly "churning" numbers and that it is possible to hit back-to-back jackpots. My question is if someone walks up to the slot machine and puts in $100 and spins four times and hits ... (read more)
Best field bet17 March 2018
One of the more popular bets at a craps table is the field bet. It is a onetime bet that wins if a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 is thrown. That is the reason for its popularity – it pays on all but four numbers. Never mind that the numbers that cause you to lose this bet are those that appear most frequently. ... (read more)
Odds of a royal flush24 February 2018
Hi! On vacation, getting caught up on my reading, carefully reading your article about getting a royal flush. I am not an expert on the laws of probability, so I am confused by your statement that there are four royal flushes in 2,598,960 hands, and therefore your odds of getting a royal is one out of 649,740. ... Altering video poker payouts3 February 2018
Hello Stickman, There are 9/6 Jacks or Better progressives at two Indian casinos in Oklahoma that appear to be class III (based on previous articles you have written regarding class II vs III). They are IGH Game Kings (see below). My question is, can these machines still be altered in a way despite being ... (read more)
Size of the odds bet in craps13 January 2018
Hi Stickman, I just returned from a trip to Vegas and was playing craps at the El Cortez where a $3 minimum line bet was required. The number thrown on the come-out roll was 9, and I made a single odds bet of $2 and was told that I couldn't do that because any odds bet made could not be lower that the line bet. ... (read more)
Throwing the ace in video poker23 December 2017
Hi Stickman. I enjoy your articles and especially when you show sample hands and how to play them. I almost always know the proper play. In a recent example you showed the following hand: Ts Ac 6s Qc Js You stated that the proper hold was the ace of clubs and the queen of clubs. That is what I would hold with this hand. ... Switching slot clubs for points16 December 2017
Stickman, During my May visit to the Atlantic City Golden Nugget, I decided to try my luck at one of the four full-pay Jacks or Better video poker machines. Recognizing that these were dollar machines, I wrongly assumed that they would accumulate player points at the same rate as the other video poker machines in that casino. ... (read more)
Pressing bets at craps25 November 2017
Stickman: I am trying very hard to become a better player in the casino. I have read some of your articles and several of Frank Scoblete’s books and articles. I only play the better games in blackjack. I only make better bets at craps, and I only play the better video poker games. Sometimes I do OK, but other times I still lose big. ... (read more)
