Outdoor events at M Resort get OK from planners

2 February 2009

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- The M Resort received unanimous approval from the Henderson Planning Commission on Thursday night to hold outdoor events and live entertainment.

The $1 billion resort, at St. Rose Parkway and Las Vegas Boulevard in Henderson, is scheduled to open in March.

The conditional use permit the resort received from the Planning Commission will allow it to hold events such as promotional activities, fireworks, concerts, sales, bazaars and festivals.

Resort representatives said the majority of those events will be limited to the pool area within the resort, but they could take place anywhere on the grounds.

In a letter to Henderson planners, resort representatives said they don't anticipate that the events would disturb neighbors, because the nearest homes are more than 800 feet away and the resort will be separated from them by major roads that are already built or planned for the future.

The resort's landscaping will also screen it, they wrote.

Planning Commission Chairman Dan Shaw said the use permit is standard.

"This is the same as any other hotel or casino," he said.
