This Week in Gambling: Welcome Horseshoe Las Vegas

This Week in Gambling is a homecoming of sorts for multiple reasons. Last Friday, the Horseshoe Las Vegas officially opened its doors on The Strip as Caesars Entertainment hosted a Sin City-style production, including Las Vegas Showgirls dressed in the original costumes of the property’s “Jubilee!” show.

The ceremony included poker legend Doyle Brunson as well as Jack Binion, whose father Benny Binion was the Texas Gambler who originally owned Binion’s Horseshoe down on Fremont Street. As many of you know, that property still stands today although now we just call it Binion’s Gambling Hall.

This is significant because the original World Series of Poker used to be held at what it is now Binion’s. Last year in anticipation of this homecoming, the event was held at Bally’s, but now that the transformation from Bally’s to the Horseshoe is complete, it will return to its home, per say, as it takes place at the Horseshoe Las Vegas.

During the ceremony, Caesars executives, including CEO Tom Reeg, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors Gary Carano, and President and Chief Operating Officer Anthony Carano, addressed the crowd, which included hundreds of well-wishers. Clark County Commission Chairman Jim Gibson also welcomed the Las Vegas Horseshoe back to Sin City, noting that the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road sees 90,000 cars pass through each day, making it one of the busiest corners in the world.

“The Horseshoe is a legendary, iconic brand, and the property’s focus remains on the gambler, just like it was on day one,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager of Horseshoe, Jason Gregorec, as he shared his excitement about bringing the Las Vegas Horseshoe back to center of the Strip, where it all began more than 70 years ago. “The property offers amenities such as a steak restaurant named after Binion, M.Y. Asia by Chef Martin Yan, the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame Poker Room, and Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Sports Kitchen, which will be added in the summer.”
