'E-Dog' scores a breakthrough victory for Full Tilt pros14 February 2008
It took 82 events, 18 months and miracle runner-runner flush on the final hand, but a Full Tilt pro is finally wearing an FTOPS crown. ![]() Erick Lindgren broke what appeared to be some kind of cruel FTOPS curse on Team Full Tilt pros when he prevailed in Event #9 of FTOPS VII on Sunday. "E-Dog" entered as the host of the $300 + $22 No Limit Hold'em event and was one of six Full Tilt professionals in the field. After 11 ½ grueling hours, Lindgren and "Kochan" outlasted a near-record field of 5,637 to reach heads-up play. Lindgren overcame a 1.34 million chip differential in just four hands to take the tournament crown. First, he won a hand with trip 6's after "Kochan" pushed all-in holding an A-Q. Lindgren called with a K-6 and got a pair of 6s on the flop. Two hands later, Lindgren got the knockout hand that anyone who has ever sat down at a poker table dreams about. "Kochan" pushed all-in with pocket Queens and Lindgren called holding pocket Jacks. When the flop brought a Q and two diamonds, "Kochan" was a heavy favorite, only to see Lindgren hit a flush when both the turn and the river showed diamonds. The victory earned Lindgren $291,748.57, the biggest check the 31-year-old has cashed since he took home a cool $795,000 at the Aussie Millions $100,000 Hold'em Tournament in January of 2007. Lindgren has nearly $5 million in career poker winnings. "Kochan" pocketed $176,719.95 for second place while third-place "No Woman No Cry" also cashed in for six figures, claiming $113,641.92. The win was particularly satisfying for Lindgren considering the lack of success Team Full Tilt members have had in their host site's premiere tournament series. Since the start of FTOPS IV only five Full Tilt pros have earned Top-10 finishes in the series and one of them was Lindgren, who placed fourth in FTOPS IV's Event #14. FTOPS VII wraps up this week with two events each day beginning on Thursday. The $500 + $35 NL Hold 'em Main Event is scheduled for Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET and chances are that when the dust settles, another record-breaking amount of prize money will be handed out. FTOPS VI, which wrapped up this past November, awarded a record $11.1 in prize money. But through Wednesday's action, FTOPS VII had already handed out more than $7.3 million in its first 11 events, as compared to $6.4 million for FTOPS VI and $6.3 million for FTOPS V through the same amount of events. All the FTOPS' combined have churned out a staggering prize pool of $44.3 million. FTOPS VI drew a record 27,511 players, but in the first 11 events FTOPS VII has already seen 28,551 participants log in. Before the start of FTOPS VII, the FTOPS record for the most players in a single event was 4,578 (FTOPS V Main Event). But FTOPS VII has seen that number topped on three occasions with Event #1 drawing 5,319, Event #8 reaching the 6,000 mark and Lindgren's breakthrough victory coming against a field of 5,637.
