When is it time to run from the casino?

2 February 2021
There are times to “run” in a casino and, perhaps, to do other things in addition to that. Let’s take a look at some scenarios and see what should be done. “I am getting hammered. I just can’t seem to win in this session. What should I do? I was thinking of getting more money from my safe in my room. ... (read more)

Are They Having Fun?

26 January 2021
I had a reader ask me a very interesting question, although at first, I thought it was a silly question with an obvious answer. It wasn’t. “Mr. Scoblete, do you think that casino gamblers have fun just about every time they go to the casinos? Or is the fun just whether they win or lose?” My first answer ... (read more)

Mrs. Maisel and Slot Machines

19 January 2021
If you have not seen or become a fan of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime), you are missing out on a glorious series to this point. It’s been three absolutely wonderful (or let me change that to “marvelous”) seasons. The story is about Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a 1950’s housewife, who wants to become and indeed does become a marvelous standup comedian. ... (read more)

The New World Casinos

12 January 2021
The coronavirus has severely attacked our health and welfare. Our society has been closed with the exception of “essential workers” and while many states have initiated openings of some businesses, the impact on our economy has been devastating. I live in New York which has about half of the registered deaths as I write this column. ... (read more)

No, No, (yes) and No

5 January 2021
There is no doubt that I’ll play around in many columns about this or that technique, method or system of play, even those that are awful, but I always explain what is truly wrong with these methods. I don’t actually think most ways of play are any good or, rather, less bad. There are methods that can give ... (read more)

Interview with a Slot Machine

29 December 2020
This web site tells you a lot about slot machines but it is almost always from the vantage point of the people who play the machines. I want to know what the machines think; so I decided to interview one. In this exclusive interview you’ll get insider information never-before revealed to the general public. ... (read more)

Dear Santa

22 December 2020
Dear Santa: It’s me again. Many years ago when I was nine, which come to think of it was 64 years ago!, I wrote you and asked for a new baseball glove and to be able to run, hit and throw like Mickey Mantle of the New York Yankees. You must have forgotten about me then so I forgot about you for all these years since then. ... (read more)

Surrender and Prison are Best

15 December 2020
Surrender and Prison are Best! The American roulette wheel (38 numbers from 1-36 plus 0 and 00) was developed in Europe, while the European roulette wheel (37 numbers from 1-36 plus 0) was developed in America. For some reason the European creation is now played almost exclusively in American casinos, while the American version is played in Europe and other areas of the world. ... (read more)

Always and Never

8 December 2020
Always take full odds or as full as you can afford when you have a Pass Line, Come bet, Don’t Pass or Don’t Come bet. Keep the “line” bet small and the odds high. The house edge on the total bet will be quite low. Never give players advice at the blackjack table unless they ask for it. Better still, refer them to the dealer or let some other players offer advice. ... (read more)

Don't Get Killed

1 December 2020
I recently had a young man of about 24 tell me that I was nuts to think that craps players should only make the lowest house-edge bets when these bets are “dull.” He wanted what he called “exciting times” at the tables and that occasionally he got them. I asked him he got those “exciting times” a lot or only rarely. ... (read more)
