Frank Scoblete Gaming Guru - Page 2The Great and Terrible Craps Game11 February 2025
Craps is a wonderful game. It really is. Craps is a horrible game. It really is. There you have it in a nutshell. Depending on the choices you make and what wagers you’ll wager, these will tell us all just what kind of craps player you are. Are you a great player? Are you a rotten player? Are you ... (read more)
Roulette Then and Now4 February 2025
There are three roulette games (as far as I know) currently being played in casinos, one of which is also a church staple – called the three-zero (0, 00, 000) wheel. It is the worst one to play and I recommend that you avoid the game as you would avoid, well, anything that you should avoid. The house edge ... (read more)
"Mistakes. I've made a few."28 January 2025
Borrowing the lyrics from the Frank Sinatra hit (to quote “Mistakes? I’ve made a few!”) I want all casino players reading this to know that I have made a few mistakes in my gaming career. One with a couple of people whom I’ve trusted. Some of the very wrong people. Indeed – totally my fault in this because I saw the warning signs and ignored them. ... (read more)
The Captain Part Two21 January 2025
How should a player who does not have an edge at craps play the game? I guess the wisest of us would say “don’t ever play a game where you don’t have an edge.” That would be a speech of folly if given in seriousness because craps is just so, so much fun and otherwise sane people will play the game because they enjoy it. ... The Captain of Craps19 January 2025
My gambling mentor was the late, great Captain of craps who was a weekly Atlantic City player and a man who taught me everything I know about casino playing. He and his crew of 22 high-limit players owned Atlantic City in the early 1970s through the early 2,000s. My, my were they comped! Mostly they played craps although the wives and girlfriends tended to play the slot machines. ... (read more)
A sister's winning bet14 January 2025
I am not a collector of anything. There was a time when I was writing for over 50 magazines and newspapers, mostly monthlies, but some weeklies too. Over the decades, I spent a huge number of hours writing away in my office. Sometimes I forgot what season I was in. Actually, that’s the last 30 years. ... (read more)
Banging Your Head Against a Wall7 January 2025
Casinos have the edge over the players. It is a rare moment in a rare game where the player can actually turn the edge against the casino. Very rare. Extremely rare. Players can have skills at some games, such as blackjack by following basic strategy (the computer derived strategy for the play of every player hand verses the dealer’s up card). ... (read more)
Happy New Years31 December 2024
The year is done and a new one begins. I will spend New Years Eve watching my favorite movie of all time. My wife, the Beautiful AP and I have a New Years Eve tradition. We watch “It’s a Wonderful Life,” the Frank Capra movie that stars James Stewart and Donna Reed and a host of some of the great “old-time” actors and actresses. ... (read more)
So Much Gambling - What's Next?29 December 2024
QUESTION: Wherever you look, there are commercials for gambling; casinos, sports and what have you. Are we going overboard? Most of us can have a casino right in our television sets – if we can even call them television sets any more. If we can even call them casinos anymore. There used to be standards for television but I don’t see that much anymore. ... (read more)
Why only one bet?24 December 2024
QUESTON: I just read one of your articles where you advocate for making just one bet. What’s the point of that? Don’t you diminish the fun of playing a game by doing such a thing? I enjoy craps and roulette, just behind those I go with blackjack and – I’ll admit this – slots. I can’t imagine myself only making one bet at craps. ... (read more)
