Players Share Their Favorite Times to Play

25 May 2021
Last week I discussed my aversion to playing on the weekends at casinos because I prefer smaller numbers of people. Casinos have plenty of players during the week but cramming onto tables and squeezing on craps and roulette tables on the weekends can be off-putting, at least for me. Or I am getting grumpy as time passes. ... (read more)

Crowded or Not Crowded?

18 May 2021
I prefer going to casinos during the week as opposed to weekends. I don’t like being packed with other people in a place. If I play craps squeezing into a table is uncomfortable and, yes, annoying. Shooting the dice with someone buffeting you is unpleasant. The more players at a table, the better the chance ... (read more)

Size Does Matter

11 May 2021
I have five stores to which I go and all five sell lottery tickets; three stationary stores, a 7/11 and a liquor store (I want you to know that I only go in there for scientific purposes). I am not a big lottery player; I buy one ticket when the lottery gets to a half billion dollars. So you can see that I don’t play much. ... (read more)

Are Casino Players Insane?

4 May 2021
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.” This quote, or some version of it, has been credited to Albert Einstein. Whether Einstein said this or not, the concept seems to hold water. Why would anyone who is sane keep doing the same thing “over and over again” without seeing some change, hopefully for the better. ... (read more)

Sometimes It Is Best to Surrender

27 April 2021
In the glory days of blackjack, and maybe even in some casinos today (maybe in the remote hinterlands), there was an option called “surrender.” If you didn’t like your hand you could give up half your bet. This was an excellent option if used correctly. If you were saddled with a 16 and the dealer showed a ... (read more)

Flat Betting

20 April 2021
Scratch casino players and you will get a load of betting strategies. Some of the players will be positive progressive bettors, a few will be negative or regressive bettors, some will be haphazard bettors just throwing out bets hither and yon of different sizes, perhaps at a multitude of different games. ... Protecting Slot Cash

13 April 2021
No one wants to see their bankrolls hammered but unfortunately many aggressive slot players face such a prospect. Players need to exercise two aspects to their slot play to survive without taking regular beatings. The first is to have the proper strategy and know which machines to play and the second is to practice a serious form of money management. ... (read more)

I Misspoke

6 April 2021
Most of the time when you go to the casinos you have fun. You have ups, you have downs, you have great meals, you see some fun shows, and in short, you experience the works. You go home and soon look forward to your next trip to the temple of Lady Luck. I have been going to casinos for over three decades, ... (read more)

Regressive Betting

30 March 2021
Last week I wrote about positive progressive betting; that is, increasing one’s bet when things have been positive for you up till that time. Today I write about regressive betting – which could be a positive experience or a negative experience or a horrendously negative experience. Let’s start with the possible good for this type of wagering. ... (read more)

Positive Progressions

23 March 2021
How many times have you heard players say that they just can’t seem to take advantage of their good luck while other players are raking it in? I got plenty of emails over the years wanting to know when they should “jump on it.” Usually these questions have to do with when to increase one’s wager since a hot streak has been occurring. ...
