So Much Gambling - What's Next?29 December 2024
Wherever you look, there are commercials for gambling; casinos, sports and what have you. Are we going overboard? Most of us can have a casino right in our television sets – if we can even call them television sets any more. If we can even call them casinos anymore. There used to be standards for television but I don’t see that much anymore. What is happening? What’s going to happen in the near and far future? Gambling for most people who enjoyed it was not something that we did every day, it was occasional. Don’t get me wrong, I like to gamble on occasion but I think we may be going too far. You have kids making bets almost every day – maybe even every day. I don’t even know if these kids know how the house gets its edge. ---Brian FRANK: I think many of us are caught in the situation that you find yourself in. We enjoy gambling but I think bringing it into your house on almost every sports channel might be too much. I want to watch a game because I want to watch a game. I don’t want to be offered gambling opportunities every two seconds. And I am the guy who made a career out of gambling – make that advantage play. Ads really never influenced me. I know all of life can be considered a series of gambles but there are good and bad gambles and I think someone just throwing their money away without knowledge is sad. You can win now and again but the now is not a lot and the again only comes now and again. I think that made sense. I have no idea what the future holds for those of us who enjoy placing a bet. The commercials make gambling appear glamorous. It is to those of us who have some form of control. Kids? As a rule, they have little discipline. I think kids prefer to act out roles they think they should play but the substance of those roles? Not really there. And of course, no substance, the chances of getting hurt are far greater than those people who do have substance. I think in many areas we adults have lost control. Or maybe we never did have control. All the best in and out of the casinos! Frank Scoblete’s books are available from Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Kindle, libraries, e-books, and bookstores.
