Let me see if I've got this right. Kirk Kerkorian buys the Flamingo and builds the International, then sells both to the Hilton Corporation, which changes the name of the International to the Las Vegas Hilton. Then Kerkorian builds the MGM Grand Hotel, which he sells to Bally's, which in turn is sold to the Hilton Corporation. Kerkorian then builds the MGM Grand on the same piece of land where he bought the Marina and the Tropicana golf course. He also buys the Sands and the Desert Inn. Meanwhile, Steve Wynn buys controlling interest in the Golden Nugget, then builds the Mirage, Treasure Island, and half-ownership in the Monte Carlo — the other half of which is owned by Circus Circus, which also owns Luxor, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, and Circus Circus. Wynn also buys the Dunes, implodes it, and builds the Bellagio. While this is going on, Caesars Palace is sold to I.T.T., which also buys the Desert Inn from Kirk Kerkorian. Then Starwood buys Caesars Palace and Desert Inn from I.T.T., selling Caesars Palace to Park Place Entertainment, a spinoff of the Hilton Corporation, which also builds Paris-Las Vegas. Kerkorian, meanwhile, sells the Sands to Sheldon Adelson, who implodes it and builds the Venetian, which is right next door to the old Holiday Inn, which was bought by Harrah's, who also bought the Showboat and the Rio. Then Kirk Kerkorian buys the Golden Nugget, Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio, and half-ownership in the Monte Carlo from Steve Wynn, who buys the Desert Inn from Starwood. So I guess the big question is: Who owns the other three casinos in Las Vegas? This article is provided by the Frank Scoblete Network. Melissa A. Kaplan is the network's managing editor.
