Candio becomes Italy's all-time leader with fourth-place WSOP finish

7 November 2010

Filippo Candio was the first Italian player to reach a World Series of Poker Main Event final table, and by finishing fourth, he put himself in the history books once again as the leading Italian player on poker's all-time money list. Candio's finish earned him nearly $3.1 million.

"It's an honor, but I would prefer to win this tournament," said Candio. "But that's okay. It was amazing to stay here in Vegas and play in the Main Event."

Candio displayed an amazing amount of candor and confidence. He was the only player to show a bluff during the entire day's play, and he did so on several occasions. And after he was busted from the tournament, he was asked if he expected to do so well, he had a simple response.

"Yes," Candio said with a wry grin.

Like all of the other players who busted on Saturday, Candio left the table satisfied that he had played his best.

"I played a lot of hands in the last three months and I tried to play with the best players in the world," said Candio. "I think I'm a better player. I love poker. I'm a professional player and (this has been the best time) of my life."

Candio says he may play in the NAPT event in Los Angeles next week, but was certain of one thing. No matter what, you can expect to see Filippo Candio at more poker tournaments in the United States for a long time to come.
