WSOP boots $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event from 2010 schedule

17 December 2009

The World Series of Poker released the schedule for the 2010 WSOP Thursday, and the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament is no longer on it. In its place is the $50,000 Player's Championship.

The Players Championship, which will be the first bracelet of the 2010 WSOP, will be a mixed game on the first four days of the tournament. Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, No-Limit Hold'em, Pot-Limit Omaha and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball will all be played on the first four days. Only No-Limit Hold'em will be played at the final table. ESPN will provide television coverage of the new tournament.

The original $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament was the brainchild of former WSOP Jeffrey Pollack, who resigned unexpectedly last month. The first $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, won by the late David "Chip" Reese, also had a No-Limit Hold'em only final table. The final table at the next three H.O.R.S.E. events included the full H.O.R.S.E. rotation, making it the most prestigious bracelet tournament at the WSOP. Freddy Deeb won the event in 2007. Scotty Nguyen won it 2008 while David Bach won in 2009.

The Chip Reese trophy, which went to the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. winner, will now go to the Player's Championship winner.

The WSOP has also added a $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship and a $25,000 6-Handed No-Limit tournament to its 57-event schedule.

The 2010 Series begins on May 28 with the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em event and the Player's Championship. The Main Event begins July 5. The Main Event final table will be conducted in November for the third-straight year, but dates for the final table have not been finalized.
