Peter Dicks returns to Sportingbet

23 January 2008

Sportingbet has reappointed Peter Dicks to its non-executive chairman position, the company announced Tuesday. James Wilkinson was also named finance director as part of a "significant restructuring," according to Sportingbet CEO Andrew McIver.

Dicks was arrested at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport in September at the request of Louisiana authorities, who charged that Dicks and Sportingbet had violated Lousiana's anti-online gambling laws. But Gov. George Pataki refused to sign Lousiana's extradition order, and Dicks, who resigned his position moments after being freed, was allowed to return to the U.K.

Six months after Dicks' arrest, Sportingbet agreed to pay the state of Louisiana a $400,000 fine and all charges against both Dicks and the company were dropped. Sportingbet also no longer accepts bets from the United States.
