WSOP update: Lisandro wins first bracelet

Jeffrey "Iceman" Lisandro won his first bracelet Thursday in the $2,000 Seven-Card Stud Event (#32).

The 41-year old Italian poker pro and highly-regarded cash-game specialist collected $118,426.

Lisandro won the WSOP circuit event in Lake Tahoe last year and has five WSOP final tables on the books since 2004, including a second place finish this year.

His deep run in the 2006 WSOP Main Event was covered extensively by ESPN last year, but the Iceman finished 17th and wound up a big name on the best-player-to-never-win-a-bracelet list.

ESPN added this event to its coverage after Daniel Negreanu and Lisandro made the final table. Negreanu finished fifth, his second top-five performance in 2007.

Rebuy tourney settles down to final nine (Event #33)

The craziness is almost over.

After two full days of swapping millions of chips, nine players are ready to fight for the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha with rebuys title this evening at 2 p.m. PST.

Chau Giang, Hilbert Shirley and Chris Bjorin are big names remaining. Giang, who finished third in this event last year, is looking for his fourth WSOP bracelet. Shirley is also looking for his fourth bracelet, and his first since 1995. Bjorin is a two-time bracelet winner, but has not won a title since 2000.

Qushqar Morad is the chip leader with a stack near $1 million. Morad won a Seven Card Stud bracelet in 2002 for his only major tournament cash.

This final table boasts players from six countries and three continents.

The Dragon looks to devour WSOP rookies (Event #34 final table)

David "The Dragon" Pham will be facing eight WSOP final-table rookies later today in his is bid to win the $3,000 Limit Hold'em title and secure his third gold bracelet.

Pham, who won his second bracelet last year, has more WSOP cashes (21) than the rest of the players combined (19). He is third in chips position with $254,000.

WSOP rookie Alexander Borteh of Columbus, Ohio is the chip leader with $360,000.

Cambridge, Mass. resident Brandon Wong is in fourth with $216,000. He has nine WSOP cashes in three years, but no major titles or finishes.

Phil Hellmuth finished 25th in this event, good enough for his 61st cash.
