Soap Opera Slot Offers Drama, Intrigue, and a Lot of Fun

28 August 2004
I don't watch soap operas because I know I'd be hopelessly hooked. I put them in the same category as popcorn--one taste and I'm a goner, or rather the entire bag is. So I just leave the soaps turned off. However, on a recent tour of Kansas City casinos I found a way to indulge this potential addiction--and possibly win a few bucks. ... (read more)

Play B-I-N-G-O to Win M-O-N-E-Y

14 August 2004
As slot machines get more sophisticated, the game-within-a-game concept seems to be more prevalent: Monopoly, Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit are good examples. Other video reel slots incorporate generic, classic games that everyone knows, like tic-tac-toe, lotto and today's subject, bingo. I like IGT's video-reel version of bingo, Five-Card Instant Bingo, for a lot of reasons. ... (read more)

Seven Intense Minutes in a Slot Tournament

18 July 2004
The first time I saw a slot tournament was on a Las Vegas program on cable TV. I was shocked to find out that all that's involved is banging on a button until it's time to stop. Despite that, slot tournaments are among the most popular contests at a casino. I wanted to find out why, so I recently entered the noon edition of the Wild Winsday Slot Tournament at Ameristar Casino in St. ... (read more)

In a Texas State of Mind

11 July 2004
Not long ago I had the privilege to visit the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum, which recently relocated to beautiful Branson, Missouri. Well, actually I visited the gift shop, since the museum cost about $18 and I had already blown a small fortune at Silver Dollar City. However, I did come home with a ... (read more)

Patriotic Slots Offer All-American Jackpots!

4 July 2004
Q. What's red, white, and blue--and green? A. The jackpot you win from a slot machine with an all-American theme! The Fourth of July is today and you can celebrate liberty and justice for all by exercising your legal right to enjoy casino gambling! There's no better way to do that than by playing a slot machine featuring a patriotic theme. ... (read more)

Life Among the Slots: Picture Yourself A Winner With Pictionary

7 June 2004
I'm not a group-participation type of person. Maybe that explains why I like to play slot machines and work crossword puzzles. They're solitary pleasures. I've been coerced into playing Pictionary a few times, and I liked the word-game aspect of it, though not the group action. So when WMS Gaming came out ... (read more)

Frog Prince

17 May 2004
Once upon a time I went to the casino in search of a prince of a slot machine--one that would have colorful graphics, offer legendary amusement and grant me my wish of winning a zillion dollars or more. I wandered the aisles seeking that princely slot, when I heard the soothing croaks of happy frogs. ... (read more)

Life among the Slots: IGT's Phone Tag Dials the Right Number

3 May 2004
When IGT announced its lineup of new slots at the recent Global Gaming Expo, one of the wackiest titles, in my opinion, was the Phone Tag video slot. Imagine, a slot machine based on miscommunication. Well, if they can make a slot about Spam, they can make a slot about anything, including garbled gossip. ... (read more)

Jackpot Party and Reel 'Em In Are Oldies But Still Pretty Goodies

19 April 2004
Isn't it remarkable how, in just a few short years, video slot machines have evolved into the technological wonders they are today? Double and triple bonuses, bonuses-within-bonuses, crazy sound effects, movie and TV show clips, celebrity voices and so much more are built into the newer games. Thinking ... (read more)

Surfin' the Slots with Frankie and Annette

5 April 2004
One of these statements is true: In the 1960s, I was too young to watch the Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello Beach Party movies. In the 1960s, I was too uninterested to watch Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello movies. I won't say which statement is the correct one, but the bottom line is I have never seen a Beach Party movie and don't feel like I'm missing a lot. ... (read more)
