ZZ Top returns to Tulsa Hard Rock Oct. 1820 June 2013TULSA, Oklahoma -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Texas blues rock trio ZZ Top is looking to perform to a sell-out crowd at The Joint for the third year in a row when they return Oct. 18 to the venue inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. Tickets start at $50 and go on sale Thursday. ZZ Top’s most recent release is 2012’s “La Futura.” The band’s 15th studio album peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and features the singles “I Gotsta Get Paid” and “Flyin’ High,” which was first played in June 2011 in space aboard the Soyuz spacecraft during its flight to the International Space Station. Since forming in 1969 in Houston, ZZ Top has been a mainstay on rock radio, with more than 40 singles being released from 14 studio albums that have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. In 2004, ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. ZZ Top’s breakout success came with the band’s third effort, 1973’s “Tres Hombres,” which featured the single “La Grange,” which instantly became one of ZZ Top’s more memorable songs. The band toured relentlessly throughout the 70s before taking a two-year break in 1977. When the band returned to the studio, guitarist Billy Gibbons and bassist Frank Hill had grown their iconic beards. Drummer Frank Beard, ironically, has never grown a matching beard. The trio began the 80s with the hits “Tube Snake Boogie” and “Pearl Necklace,” but the release of 1983’s “Eliminator” made them one of the biggest hit-makers of the 80s. The album sold more than 10 million copies and featured the popular singles “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Got Me Under Pressure,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs,” which also won the band one of three of its MTV Video Music Awards.
