Yuba County Casino In Jeopardy

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the California Appeal-Democrat: "The proposed hotel-casino in Yuba County will be "in jeopardy" unless Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger quickly approves a gaming compact with a Butte County tribe, says Yuba County Supervisor Mary Jane Griego.

"But the governor's legal secretary, in a recent letter to Griego, said it would be 'premature' to negotiate with Enterprise Rancheria 'at this time.'

"….The development proposal calls for a 207,760-square-foot casino with an eight-story, 107,125-square-foot hotel on 40 acres along Forty Mile Road in the south of the county.

"The tribe is still trying to persuade the federal government to place the land into a trust, a critical first step in the process. Tribal officials were unavailable for comment Thursday.

"…Griego contended that since Yuba County has high unemployment and little economic development, there was a 'compelling public policy reason' to negotiate the gaming compact…"
