Yggdrasil Gaming receives warning and fee from Swedish Gambling Authority

26 March 2024

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Swedish Gambling Authority is of the opinion that Yggdrasil Gaming Limited has provided gaming software to an operator that does not have the necessary Swedish license and the company receives a warning and an administrative fine of SEK 300,000.

As of July 1, 2023, a permit is required to handle gaming software under the Gambling Act. The licence requirement applies to operators who manufacture, provide, install and/or modify gaming software used in commercial online gaming. The purpose of the requirement is to increase channelisation and thereby counteract illegal gambling. Unlicensed gambling operators should not be able to use suppliers that manufacture, provide, install and/or modify gaming software for gambling operators licensed in Sweden.

The Swedish Gambling Authority has inspected a number of websites operated by operators who do not have the necessary Swedish gaming license and who are prohibited from operating gambling in Sweden. The Swedish Gambling Authority was then able to establish that Yggdrasil Gaming Limited was a gaming supplier to an operator that did not have the necessary Swedish license and initiated a supervision of the company.
