Wyoming Governor to Support Tribal Casino10 August 2005LANDER, Wyoming – As reported by the Caspar Star-Tribune: "Admitting defeat over the Indian gambling issue, Gov. Dave Freudenthal declared Tuesday that his administration is 'committed to follow the law' and will do everything it can to ensure a positive outcome for the Wind River Indian Reservation, local communities and the state. "The governor spoke at the Wind River Native American Conference regarding this summer's ruling by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that allows the Northern Arapaho Tribe to offer Las Vegas-style gambling at the tribe's Wind River Casino near Riverton. "He said the Eastern Shoshone Tribe has also expressed interest in a casino. "Freudenthal said he'd like the Shoshone casino to operate on the same regulatory template that remains to be worked out between the Arapaho tribe and the U.S. Interior Department. "Willie Noseep, a member of the Eastern Shoshone Business Council, confirmed that the tribe has appointed a gaming commission. "…Noseep estimated that it would be a couple of years before a Shoshone gambling operation became a reality…" |
