Worker Files Complaint Against Union27 October 2004ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "A Bally's Atlantic City worker filed an unfair labor practice complaint against the union Tuesday, charging she was denied strike pay. "Bernetta Saunders claims she was 'restrained and coerced' by union leaders Oct. 15 and that the union refused to pay her for time on the picket line because she had resigned from the union. "The union is paying pickets a weekly sum for completing 20 hours on the picket line. The amount had been $200, but was raised to $300 on Oct. 15. "…Union workers who file financial core member papers with the union can return to their jobs and still receive benefits awarded under any new contract, but they give up their voting power in the union and are regarded as nonmembers. "…Saunders, of Clementon, declined to comment on the charges or her resignation from the union, saying the matter is being investigated by the National Labor Relations Board…" |
